Day 284/365 - Interior Eve Beres 2

Day 284/365 - Interior Eve Beres 2

To sum up today in one word… I'd have to use, exhausting. But for all of you who follow me know, I never leave it at just word!

today was the second full day of our juice fast and let me tell you… it was hard! I woke up feeling like absolute dog shit! Headache, fatigue and overall crapiness! Joyce was also feeling a bit under the weather. We both expected this so we weren't too worried. What we were worried about was wether or not we were going to be able to say no to food for another days. Not being quitters we set out to the kitchen to whip up yet another batch of juice. I opted for the green juice while Joyce decided on some good and sweet apple juice. With a less then a full stomach we set off to prepare for today's shoot with Eve Beres, Interior Designer.

This is shoot number two with Eve for Luxe Magazine. We would this time be shooting in a penthouse condo in Juno Beach, Florida. Once we found the place, we parked and made our way all the way up to the top floor. The elevator opened directly into the condo, which according to the owner, is a little disconcerting in the beginning.

Gear wasn't hard to lug up as we were met downstairs by the owner John with a shopping cart. Not a half bad deal if I say so myself. We met Eve upstairs who was in the middle of getting ready. She had brought a black evening gown and was ready to show off yet another pair of heels.

I shot the interiors of the condo while she finished getting ready. Once suited up, Eve, Joyce and myself got right down to business in the master bathroom. I had placed one light outside on the windy balcony a good 100 feet above the ground. With the aqua blue ocean to the east it was one hell of a view. I set the light up for the sole purpose of boosting the light coming into the room. The only problem was the dirty window that I "decided" was ok and didn't need to be cleaned. I'll just go right ahead and kick myself in the ass for that dumb ass call!

Eve was shy, maybe a bit more than last time. She says it was because the last shoot she was hiding behind a chair while this time she was right out in the open. I assured her she was doing fine and offered to direct her a little more like I'd direct a model. She seemed to like that idea and soon she was "turning her head to the side, looking down with eyes up at me and so on!" This ended up giving up the best looking shots.

Time was running short as I had meeting with textile designer Patty Madden right after the shoot. We had already pushed the meeting and wasn't about to do it again. I knew we had already nailed the winning shot so I was comfortable calling the shoot.

We packed up and headed to Patty's home as we had already missed the Starbucks meeting scheduled at 4pm.

Patty Madden has some of the coolest advertisements for fabric I've ever seen! She likes to ride the edge of what the design industry considered acceptable. WIth heavily tattooed men, skateboarding over hear designs, Check her out if you have some time. Patty Madden Softwares or Luxe Surfaces. I'll be working with those two brands on their new advertising campaign.

Turns out Patty is a Raw Vegan and was able to give us a little insight and humor towards our rather extreme approach to vegan eating. I'll be sure to pick her brain about the next step after the crazy 10 day fast is up. Her husband and business partner Gary was very similar to my father as he liked to slip small jabs in about our extreme diet! He did something similar a few years back and lost 50lbs. Its obvious that it works.

On the way home Joyce and I did nothing but talk about what kind of food we wanted. No matter where we looked we saw food! Taco Bell, Mc Donald's, Olive Garden, Checkers… Even on the highway we couldn't get away from it with bill boards for steak and bread bowls at Panera. By the time we got home I was ready to cave! I have not been this hungry since we ran out of food and money during one of the hurricanes a few years back.

We did break down and chew on a few pieces of celery, which by my calculations is not cheating as its part of the diet. We just let our teeth do the juicing. Its been 48 hours of only natural, raw, living food. I'm hoping my body adjusts to the lack of caffein as I've had a pounding headache all day!

Hopefully its downhill after day 2!

Fastlynx

Fastlynx

There's a story to this.

I've been cleaning out a lot of old technology stuff at home, and I found these... I was reluctant to just throw them out, because they saved me so many, many hours of work back in the day...

For those of you who are old enough to remember, the pre-Windows 95 universe was a simpler place. These cables were the easiest and fastest way to move files from one PC to another.

Starting from the right, the plug with two cables coming out of it is a serial fastwire cable. The software was later replaced by something called fastlynx, but it was the same stuff. You hooked the ends of the cable to serial ports of two computers, ran the software on both of them, and sent the files from one to another. You could transfer an entire system this way in those days, if you had the time.

The second red cable is a parallel port version of the same thing. Much, much faster.

This one was also used by a piece of software called Lantastic Z, which networked the two PCs. (Lantastic had a more popular version that used actual network cards.)

The blue cable was a breakthrough. No different to use than the red parallel one, it enabled turbo mode. Some rewiring of the cable, and rewriting of the software allowed significant improvements. The F1 on the plug beside my name was because I was a partner in a business called F1 Computer Help, and these were our most valuable tools. No, really. :-)

The yellow cable is an interloper. It comes from Symantec, and was supplied with some versions of PCAnywhere. The funny thing was, it was a better Fastlynx cable than Fastlynx could supply. I never did figure out why.

Then Windows for Workgroups 3.11 came along and provided networking to anyone who wanted it. Windows 95 provided long file names, and so many complications that it was no longer practical to simply copy systems from one machine to another.

Fastlynx is still available, and they have got around the various limitations as they've come up, but in the days of the Internet, rampant networking, huge media capacity, USB, optical drives... well, its day in the sun is well over.

Good times.

Carpet and Window Cleaning Business downloadable Software

There are two fairly new, and very important conditions existing in the world today that have not only made the carpet cleaning industry a "billion dollar business," but also practically guarantee your success as an entrepreneur in this field. First, almost all homes and office buildings built since 1960 have wall-to-wall carpeting. Secondly, the replacement costs and the cyclical faltering of the national economy have caused people to want to make what they already own last longer, especially in the case of carpeting, which is a sizeable investment.
